SENIORS LATEST NEWS - AUGUST TO OCTOBER 2023

Welcome to all our Ryde Eastwood Seniors members plus anyone else who would like to come along and join the Seniors Club. How has the last six months passed by; we need to make the most of the next six months.

APRIL, MAY, JUNE 2023 – Activities Update
During April, May and June the seniors club had many activities, walk to Danger Island at Brooklyn, Opal train trips, walk and lunch at the Marayong Hotel and Pennant Hills Bowling Club which were enjoyed by all who joined the outings.

In May the Mother’s Day Lunch was held, great prizes were won by some of our luck members, the luncheon was enjoyed by all.

A bus trip to Gerroa with lunch at the Fisherman’s Club followed by a wine tasting at Silo Winery then to the Old Butter Factory in Berry, this was a great day out.

The speakers at our general meetings have been very interesting, our members found the Crime Prevention and Safety for Seniors in the Community very informative, this talk and demonstration alerted our seniors to the scams and criminal activates to be aware of.

Moving forward to the next quarter August, September and October
There are walks, interesting speakers, opal trips planned for August, September and October. Walk at Penrith, opal trip to Hornsby RSL all followed by lunch. There is a Xmas in July function to be held at Thirroul Sports Club, a scenic bus trip with morning tea on route then a Xmas lunch at the club, this will be on the 27th July. All welcome just come along and join the REL Seniors.

August a bus trip “Back to Balmain” visiting all the historic part of Balmain and the surrounding area followed by lunch. In September our Father’s Day Lunch will take place on the Wednesday the 6th September.

The REL Seniors Social/Morning Tea meeting is held on the first Thursday of every month. This Social meeting is new/resurrected for the REL Seniors Club, this morning meeting is open to all who wish to make a social connection with fellow members. Please note there is no morning tea meeting in August.

The REL Seniors General meeting is held on the 3rd Thursday of every month, both meetings are held upstairs in a function room where morning tea is provided, doors open at 10.30am.

REL Seniors Club is grateful for the ongoing support from Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club.

SENIORS LATEST NEWS - MAY TO JULY 2023

Hi to all the Seniors.
Writing this journal inclusion for May June July has bought to mind how quickly this year 2023 is passing by. I have heard it said the older you get the faster time goes, I hope not too fast. Feb 2023 – Apr 2023 activities
From February there where walks which included Cronulla, Vaucluse to Watsons Bay, this was a very hot day, so the attendance was less than usual and unfortunately the April walk to Wendy’s Garden at Milsons Point was cancelled due to very heavy rain so hoping the weather during the next quarter is more favourable. Our AGM was held in March and new committee formed. The bus trip to Palm Beach was very enjoyable, a bus to Palm Beach and the ferry across to Ettalong with lunch at the Ettalong RSL, a good time was had by all, the Opal trip, train walk and lunch in April was to the Marayong hotel.
The speakers at our general meetings where very informative, our members found The Bee Man very interesting along with the fresh honey that he provided, the speaker from Next Sense (Blind Society) was insightful to the good work being done in this field.

Moving forward to the next quarter May June July, there are walks, interesting speakers, opal trips planned for May June July.

SENIORS LATEST NEWS - MAY TO OCTOBER 2022

To all seniors, it is great to have the Ryde Eastwood Seniors Club up and functioning without interruptions from Covid Shutdowns.
Covid will always be around so please mask up and sanitize to keep yourself safe.
As the Senior’s Club has slowly opened with outing, walks, bus trips and meetings this is attracting new members which is great, a big welcome to all the new members.
Unfortunately, the Seniors Club has had some members pass away on behalf of all at the Seniors I would like to pass on my condolences to their family and friends.
From May through to July the Seniors Club had some great bus trips, walks and outings, however due to the wet weather some of the walks had to be cancelled

Outings/Bus Trips. May 5th Mother’s Day Lunch, 17th Tour of the Opera House,

June 2nd Doyle’s Lunch, 21st Bus trip to the Macarthur Region Lunch and Warragamba Dam.

July 28th Xmas in July, as you can see, we have had many enjoyable outings.
Hopefully the wet weather will disappear so we all can enjoy our outings, walks and outings that we have arranged for:-

Aug- Bus trip to the Quarantine Station. Walks/Outings to Brooklyn. Meeting at the club on the 18/8 at 11.00am.

SENIORS LATEST NEWS - MAY FEBRUARY TO APRIL 2022

2022 is looking good, we are all learning to live with Covid, everyone is venturing out and about, this is great to see. The Ryde Eastwood Leagues Seniors Club is back, meeting on the third Thursday of every month at 11.00 am.

The AGM was held on the 17th of February, a committee was elected with new committee members which is good to see, this holds our club in good stead moving forward.
Even though the weather has not been kind the Ryde Eastwood Leagues Seniors Club has still had great walks and outings. The trip to Manly was a great day out, the outing to Bundeena in the heavy rain with lunch at the RSL club turned out to be a fun day, as was the St Patricks Day Concert at Doyalson.

April bought more outings. Walk to Botanical Gardens followed by lunch, bus trip to Gledswood Historical Homestead with lunch and a tour.
May June July-there will be many activities walks, outings, luncheons, and bus trips to look forward to. Walks. May – Penrith/Emu plains, June-Cronulla, July-Lewisham to Ashfield.

SENIORS LATEST NEWS - FEBRUARY TO APRIL 2022

To all fellow seniors, with 2021 behind us I hope we all can get through 2022 Covid free. Due to Covid the REL Seniors Club has not been able to function as normal during 2021, however we did manage a few great events.

Xmas in July to Camden Valley Inn finally happened in November, great bus trip, lunch and entertainment, everyone enjoyed the day out. The Xmas Lunch held at Ryde Eastwood Leagues was a great success thanks to the Club and Lisa for her help in coordinating the event. We had 80 members attend and all had a great time. The Xmas morning tea/meeting attendance was down however everyone is busy at that time of the year, hope to see you all in January on the 20th in the auditorium at 11.00am.

The AGM will be held in February on the 17th, come along and support the Seniors Club, if you wish to join the executive committee, please put your nomination in at the January meeting.
2022, we all hope will be a much kinder year than 2021. We have bus trips to Quarantine Station in Feb, St Patricks Concert at Doyalson in Mar and a trip to Gledswood Homestead in Apr, walks, outings also arranged for 2022 so please come along on the 3rd Thursday of every month and join all your fellow members at 11.00am in the auditorium. I would like to offer condolences for the members that passed during 2021 and to acknowledge all the members that have moved on.

Our last original executive Coral Staff has retired as treasurer I would like to take this opportunity to thank Coral for the past 21 years of dedication to the REL Seniors Club.
Always looking for new members, come along and join likeminded seniors for friendship, fun and a way to be social.
Lets make 2022 an enjoyable fun/healthy year.

NOVEMBER 2021

Finally, we are open for business after Covid again closed the Ryde-Eastwood Seniors Club down. We have not been able to meet or have a function since June 2021. which has been such a long time for us all. At last, we can look forward to up-and-coming events. There is a Christmas Lunch to be held on the 2nd of December 2021, which everyone is looking forward to. A bus trip we had booked for July is now going ahead on the 18th of November, all so very excited to be out and about again.

The next Ryde Eastwood Seniors meeting is to be held on the 16th December; all our members are invited to this Christmas morning tea. Bring a plate and joins us for the last meeting/catch up for 2021. Moving forward to 2022, which we all hope will be a much kinder year than 2021, we have bus trips, walks, outings arranged, so please come along on the 3rd Thursday of every month and join all your fellow members at 11.00am in the auditorium.

We are always looking for new members, so come along and join likeminded seniors for friendship, fun and a way to be social. Let's make 2022 the best year yet!

Ryde Eastwood Leagues Seniors Club is supported by Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club and has been running successfully for over 20 years. The seniors club was established in 2000 by retirees looking to start up a social club for many over 55’s in the area.

MAY 2021 UPDATE:

At long last Ryde Eastwood Seniors is up and running again after a year to forget. Covid closed the seniors club down for most of 2020 and to finish the year off three of our long-standing committee resigned, we had to farewell our secretary of 20 years Marie Weston and her husband Graham along with one of the last foundation members Zelna Smith, we wish them all well for the future. The Seniors Club meets on the 3rd Thursday of every month in the auditorium. If you are looking friendship, walks, fun and outings with likeminded seniors come join Ryde Eastwood Leagues Seniors.
