Swim School History

The Fitness Edge Swim School opened on 30th April 1998. It is located within the
Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club and is a subsidiary facility to our Fitness Centre.

In September 2002 at the inaugural Austswim NSW Splash Conference, The Fitness Edge Swim School reached without a doubt the highest point in its first 5 years of operation, when we were recognised as being the Austswim NSW Swim School of the Year for 2001-2002 and Austswim NSW Special Aquatic Event of the Year for our “Fit and Healthy Kids Week”.
All this was topped by several of our Instructors being nominated for Austswim NSW Instructor of the Year with Joe Howard receiving a High Commendation for his years of service as a Swimming Instructor.

In 2003 the Fitness Edge Swim School was nominated in the NSW Government Water Safety Awards for “Outstanding Service to Water Safety” in the community and our Instructor, Joe Howard received a “High Commendation Award” in recognition of his work in the swimming industry over the past 40 years. In 2003 Joe reached the pinnacle of his career when he was named Austswim NSW Instructor of the Year.

In 2006 we were very proud to again be recoginsed by Austswim as we were awarded the Small Swim School of the year for the second time. A huge achievement.

For 3 consecutive years the title of Austswim NSW Swimming Teacher of the Year has also been awarded to Fitness Edge Swim School Teachers:
2003 - Joe Howard
2004 - Leanne Mooy
2005 - Glenn Haskins
A record that both Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club and The Fitness Edge Staff are very proud of and have intention on building on!

In 2000, 2001, 2003 & 2005 The Fitness Edge was recognised for being Most Outstanding Health and Fitness Centre in the Northern Districts Small Business Awards.

In 2008 the Fitness Edge Gym and Swim School were both finalist in the Community Business Awards for Contributions to the Community.
